Main Street St. Charles offers a downtown experience that you won't find anywhere else. For over 220 years St. Charles has welcomed visitors arriving by horse, train, boat and automobile, and they keep coming back. South Main Street features over 100 historic buildings, shops and restaurants that will make you feel like you are going back to a simpler time.

Located on the Missouri River, St. Charles has the distinction of being the organization point of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804 and also served as Missouri's first state capitol. Today the city serves as the county seat of Missouri's fastest growing county and is the second largest city in the Metropolitan St. Louis area. Although there are special events every week of the year, Christmas in St.

Charles is like nowhere else. The city rolls out it's welcome mat during St. Charles Traditions with special programs and events celebrating the holiday season and giving visitors a living history lesson in the development of our favorite holiday. Some of the more popular events include:
  • Santas from around the world
  • Carolers strolling in Victorian costumes singing only period songs
  • Living History Characters including Scrooge, Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchitt
  • Drum & Fife corps and strolling musical minstrels playing holiday favorites
  • Roasted Chestnuts, Hot roasted Pecans and Almonds and Kettle Corn
  • Vendors selling holly & flowers
  • Santa Parade every Saturday and Sunday at 1:30pm
  • Collector Cards for all Santas and characters
  • Christmas Carol sing-a-long every Saturday and Sunday at 4:45 pm at the Gazebo
  • Mrs. Claus' Storytelling & Crafts Cottage located at 625 South Main
  • Santa digital photos with Civil War Santa at 625 South Main

Whether you decide to visit Main Street St. Charles during the Christmas season, or any other time of the year, give yourself at least a day to relax and take in some of the sites. For many of us that live in the St. Louis area, Main Street St. Charles has become a very popular destination many times during the year. This charming town has something to offer for everyone and is a must see for visitors to the St. Louis area.
